ORA, Berlin, Germany
Rediscovered a true gem today. ORA is a crazy beautiful café and restaurant located in an old pharmacy in Kreuzberg . Until recently I was not blown away by the food, but I came back for lunch today and it was seriously amazing. Pictured a chicken salad and a lentil bowl with homemade pastrami - both extremely tasty!

Jason Goldberg. Interesting. They have apparently changed chefs recently, but this seems very recent. The three dishes we had were all very solid and well executed. Maybe it's a lunch thing. Need to investigate.
Jason Goldberg 3 days ago
I'll return for lunch and try. We had lamb and fish mains for dinner that were just average, nothing too great.
Great space and atmosphere though!

GUEST QUESTION
Hello Per, would you know any restaurants or places that could let me host a birthday party for about 30 people? It will be good if they have a birthday or a party food package. Thanks a lot!!!

Hey there! That's a very tough question, plenty of places that fit this description. :) what are you looking to spend? And what kind of food would you enjoy?

Well... what about just a relatively nice restaurant with good food and a reasonable price. We will go from there. Haha

Do you know of any good Spanish restaurants in Berlin?

Hey there! There is aren't many great Spanish restaurants, the ones I would recommend are Bar Raval and Bar Gracia as well as Txocoa for a Basque spin on Spanish.

Malafemmena, Berlin, Germany
The latest addition to Berlin's Neapolitan pizza craze is Malafemmena out in Friedenau. They've got one of the best gas pizza ovens money can buy and the results are everything you'd want from an Neapolitan pizza: elaborate doughs (chewy to perfection with the crunchy blisters on top), the best tomatoes from the hills around Mount Vesuvius and cheese made from some of the very best milk money can get. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!

I have a sincere love affair with the köfte sandwich, the smaller, unknown brother to the Döner Kebab.
This one is from Imren, my favourite Döner shop. Not bad, but it doesn't beat my favourite one at Konak Izmir.

W - Der Imbiss, Berlin, Germany
People always ask me for great Indian food in Berlin and despite the width of the city's culinary repertoire, this is really a tough food vertical with hardly any place I'd truly recommend. One place I love to go for Indian style food is W Der Imbiss, I always have their Thali plate that comes with loads of curries and chutneys. Not straightforward Indian, but a lot of fun and very fresh!

Hey Per! Do you have any favorites for whole grilled fish in Berlin?
Per Meurling

Oh totally - I'd go to one of the Turkish fish grills like Taka behind Kottbusser Tor kr, even better, to Kardas Mine in Moabit, an insane place with tons of post its hanging from the ceiling and where evenings sometimes turn into Turkish dance parties.

POKÉ! There is finally a dedicated poké place in Berlin and it's already seriously hyped. After a first visit I wasn't blown away, the food is not bad but the quality of the ingredients is very mediocre. Poké designed for mass production. The place is called Maloa and is located on Oranienstraße just off Hackescher Markt.

Katerschmaus, Berlin, Germany
The absolute BEST food spot to enjoy this Berlin summer? Definitely the terrace of Katerschmaus at the Spree, the iconic restaurant that once was part the legendary Bar 25 club. Especially the lunch here is insane, this week I had a beef tartar and Königsberger Klopse and they were both great.

Long March Canteen, Berlin, Germany
Hey Per! Any thoughts on Long March Canteen? I went tonight with low expectations but thought it was pretty decent.
Per Meurling
HOST
Haven't been for a while actually - but I had some very average experiences about two years ago.
It's the same crew that runs Yumcha Heroes and I have a fundamental problem with how they interpret Chinese food. Especially their dumplings, with their thick dough and huge fillings, it's like they try to put a Bratwurst into a dumpling. Having said that, I used to really like these places a couple of years ago before I travelled to Asian and the food is not per se bad. It's just not great.

We stayed away from the buns and dumplings and just went mostly for the cold starters and the hot dishes -- Shared about 15 amongst 4 of us. Some clear hits, only q couple of complete misses -- and overall exceeded expectations! (Had minimal to none!)

The cold chili chicken and the softshell crab were particularly good!

Another one from Mrs. Robinson's: Shrimp noodles (100% shrimp!), saffron and miso butter, roe.
Killer dish! A pure umami bomb and the noodles are very special.

Throwback to this beautiful black bean Bagna Cauda, sheep joghurt and salad from NYC's Amanda Cohen and Berlin's own Lode van Zuylen at our Terroir Berlin dinner last week. The Flying Monkey, Berlin, Germany
The verdict on the new dim sum place on the corner of Kastanienallee and Oderberger Straße: Mediocre Food quality with a couple of tasty highlights, overwhelmed and hence terrible service, slightly overpriced. I would give it a couple of months before I return. Pictured: Tuna and Salmon tartar in taco shells (ridiculous dish).

The Store Kitchen, Berlin, Germany
Course number 1 on the spectacular Terroir Berlin Chef's Dinner at The Store Kitchen was these hand-dived, 150 year old Mahogany Clams brought to Berlin by the infamous Roderick Sloan and served with hot charcoal, scallop roe emulsion, kohlrabi and buttermilk. A once in a lifetime kind of eat....

Ernst, Germany
Just one of the many INSANE dishes served up as part of the Terroir Berlin collaborative dinner this week. This course was raw, unshaved white asparagus
(picked fresh that morning) served with asparagus vinegar, sorrel, cream and water mint. A collaboration between ernst's Dylan Watson and Amass' Matt Orlando. Mind. Blown.

Restaurant Horváth, Berlin, Germany
Had a lovely dinner at Horvath on Friday. Pretty old school and a bit stuffy, but service was impeccable, most of the food delicious and I really appreciate their wine menu with lots of rare bottles from Eastern Europe. And in the summer their terrace by the canal is killer! Pictured: lightly seared sturgeon With a duck emulsion and rum cured plums

Glad to hear you liked it! We've been 3 times and loved it the first 2 times and then found it quite disappointing on our 3rd visit, in August 2015, and have not been back since.
If you're in Berlin right now, you should not miss out on indulging the seasonal white asparagus. Germans literally go NUTS over it and every decent German restaurant will be serving them right now. This simple version with potatoes, cured ham and a boatload of clarified butter is from Lebensmittel, my favorite Southern German lunch in Berlin.

GUEST QUESTION
I am looking for a good Mexican restaurant - I tried a few in Berlin but most of them are more some sort of imbiss/takeaway rather than a sit-down restaurant. Do you know a tasty Mexican restaurant in which you can spend more than just an hour before you feel guilty for occupying one of the very few tables?
Per Meurling
HOST
Hey Lena! They are unfortunately not really any great Mexicans in Berlin right now, when it comes to what you're describing I would recommend trying the new hip Mexican La Lucha in Xberg. I didn't live the food on my first visit, but it's quite ambitious and the venue is fun. Otherwise my go to Mexican food are the Taco Alambres at Maria Bonita and the new taco place Lucha Libre in the Moabit Markthalle.

To thank you all for making the sun shine and helping me celebrate THE BEST ICE CREAM IN BERLIN I'm bringing in the weekend with the No.1 spot on this list and the BEST ice cream shop in Berlin: Hokey Pokey in Prenzlauer Berg. Truthfully , all the ice creams at Hokey Pokey are worth standing in the (often long) queue for, but the caramel and sea salt flavour is not just the best caramel ice cream I've had in Berlin, it's also one of the best scoops I've had across the world. Go devour it now!
