Hibiscus is not self pollinating plant. It needs external help for the same. Butterflies, etc help in doing this. You can even use an ear bud for this purpose. Gently take the yellow pollens and spread them over red stigma. This is it.

After pollinating, don't pluck the flower. Let the petals fall down. It will grow into fruit which on bursting releases seeds. I will post again when this flower becomes a fruit.

Do you know honey can be used as a rooting hormone when planting stem cuttings?

Honey has antiseptic and antifungal properties which help protecting stem cuttings. Also honey has nutrients which add up to the soil fertility.

Dip the stem cutting into honey and then insert it into soil. Keep soil moist for roots to develop.

How to grow marigold from flowers?

Select flowers which are fully grown and are healthy. Place them in an open container and leave them to dry in dry and warm corner of your home. In around 10 days they will become crispy dry and are ready for planting.

For pot, I prefer recycled coca cola bottles. Just cut the top half of the bottle, make holes in the bottom using hot screw and your planting pot is ready.

Put soil mix till two third height in the pot. Open up the dry flowers so their petals come out. Spread the petals in the pot over the soil. Cover the petals with soil upto 1 cm.

Make sure that there are no stones in the soil mix. Stones hamper root growth.

For the first time, water the pot till water comes out of the bottom. After this keep watering whenever you find the top soil hard.

Keep patience and enjoy watching your little plants grow. When they get 2 inch in height, transplant them into separate pots.

It takes around a month for these saplings to grow to about 2 inch. After these they should be transplanted to independent pots.

Here I have compiled the basic steps for planting a potted plant.

Take an uneven piece of brick and keep it over the drainage hole. This is for preventing soil to go out. Keep a little space for water to go out as well.

Then put the potting mix into the pot. Put soil upto the level that after potting the plant, the plant base is around 1 inch from top of the pot. Steps for preparing the potting mix were given in my earlier post.

Take the plant out of the plastic bag very carefully, without disturbing the roots and place it in the pot.

Fill up the space around, with soil. Using a stick, put pressure on the soil and press it downwards. Don't put pressure near the plant base and leave around 2 inch circle from the center. If you don't press the soil, after watering the soil goes down very much and this is not good.

After the pot is filled with soil, water the pot. For the first time watering, continue doing this till water comes out of the pot bottom.

Your planting is done. Enjoy and take care of your plant ☺
