Beef Brisket, Beef Tendon and Pork Belly with Egg Noodles and broth at this great local noodle shop called Wing Kei Noodles in Sheung Wan. You can choose from a variety of Beef, Pork, vegetables and dumplings, then choose your noodle type. A large bowl like this only costs $38HK and it was so good! Definitely recommend trying for local eats in the Sheung Wan area!

Fang Fang, an elegant contemporary Asian dining destination, has opened its doors in buzzing LKF Tower, bringing delightful flavours and chic ambiance to the Central restaurant scene. The menu is prepared by acclaimed Executive Chef Kent Lee Chin Heng, former Executive Chef of Hakkasan Mumbai and Chinese Sous Chef of Kai Mayfair, recognized as Britain’s Highest Ranked Chinese Restaurant by The Sunday Times in 2012 & 2015. Chef Kent Lee sources most of his ingredients from Hong Kong ensuring he is using the freshest produce possible and makes most of the sauces used in his menu in house. Favourite dishes of the night included the flavourul Posh Duck Roll with Cucumber and Hoisin Sauce, the crisp Soft Shell Crab with Curry Leaf, Almonds, Spices and Chili, the fragrant and insanely tender Slow Cooked Jasmine Tea Smoked Pork Ribs, and the perfectly prepared Forest Honey Grilled Chilean Seabass with Asparagus and Lotus Chips. Make sure to try a few of their innovative cocktails created by Bar Manger Gagan Gurung, our favourites being the Omikuji Girl and Trai Dat which are served in cute Instagram worthy mugs. An ideal spot for those looking for a unique take on modern Asian cuisine with a lively atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, and great cocktails to match.

First time trying this local Hong Kong Cafe called Hoi On Cafe after a friend's recommendation. They do traditional Hong Kong style breakfasts and I recommend ordering their Signature Noodle Pot with all the trimmings (Fried Egg, Hot Dog, Luncheon Meat, Smoked Duck Breast and Beef slices). Can't believe this place is only a 5 minute walk from where I live!

Set in IFC, The French Window is an ideal spot for fine European cuisine alongside beautiful city views. The popular restaurant has recently introduced Chef Simon Kealy to lead their kitchen and has brought diners a new a la carte menu full of innovative French fare. Chef Kealy boasts over 27 years of culinary experience in both Europe and Asia and each dish plays with traditional French techniques as well as elements of different regional cuisines Chef Kealy has picked up throughout his career. We highly recommend the new tastings menu, highlights of which include the flavourful Pressed Pork with Sauternes Jelly, Pork Popcorn and Mustard Dressing, fresh and vibrant Beetroot Carpaccio with Radish, Broad Beans, Jelly and Beetroot Puree, unique and delicious Sous-Vide Squid ‘Risotto’ with Cauliflower, Scallop and Caviar, and juicy, tender and perfectly cooked Bresse Duck Breast with Broad Beans, Beetroot and Duck Cannelonni. Make sure to book a window seat and ask the sommelier for wine recommendations to complete an ideal date night. A perfect spot for European fare and chic surroundings.

After a recent trip to Tokyo we have become slightly addicted to Japanese fare and were excited to try out Kishoku, one of Hong Kong’s premium Omakase restaurants. Head Chef, Chef Dragon has introduced new fig dishes and Omakase menus using mouthwatering fresh fare and skill that would match many of our top experiences in Tokyo. Inspired by one of Japan’s favourite fruits, Chef Dragon wanted to create summer dishes which would suit Hong Kong’s hot summer and flaunt the fig’s delicate flavour. Our Omakase experience began with appetizers which included fresh Japanese Kyushu Abalone with Hokkaido Sea Urchin and Yuba, sweet Crab and Red Seabream with Tosazu Vinegar Jelly, indulgent Jumbo Hokkaido Oyster with Egg Yolk Vinaigrette, and melt in your mouth Tuna Belly with Shiso Leaf. This was followed by a fragrant and crisp Fig and Zucchini Flower Tempura featuring Osaka Fig wrapped in a 30 Month Aged Prosciutto and Saikyo Miso-Infused Cheddar Cheese within a Zucchini Flower. Up next the unique “Fig & Crab Monaka” was one of the highlights of the menu and featured Dried Osaka Figs slow cooked and mixed with Japanese Hairy Crab which was then topped with creamy Avocado, fresh Fig and Salmon Roe and placed on a bed of Japanese Soumen. Fresh and delicious sushi courses followed of which the sweet Surf Clam Sushi, mountain of indulgent Sea Urchin Sushi, and luxurious Kinmedai Fish with Minced Tuna Belly and Golden Salmon Roe Sushi were some of our favourites. The menu ended perfectly with the “Fig Yokan”, again using Slow Cooked Dried Osaka Fig in a Yokan Jelly with Homemade Vanilla Sauce & Watermelon. Each dish was light and vibrant and paired perfectly with crisp, cold sake. Chef Dragon’s impeccable technique ensures every course is not only mouthwatering, but displayed with great flair. We highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar so you are at the centre of the lively action and can witness all the tempting dishes being served up in front of you. A must dine spot if you love Japanese food as much as we do and definitely one of Hong Kong best Omakase experiences.

Hi Daniel, thanks for that, will do, I'm visiting Tokyo and Taipei in November, maybe Hong Kong next year.
The Drunken Pot, Hong Kong’s modern hot pot specialist, have introduced new summer recipes for an added refreshing twist to their popular menu. We headed over to their Causeway Bay location to sample the new “The Jumbo Coriander Hot Pot” which features four broths in one pot including Hearty Beef Brisket, Spicy Laksa Seafood, Numbingly Hot Sichuan, and Tomato, Potato & Pork Bone broths. We loved the varied flavours which were not only delicious but also packed with health benefits. Make sure to order their melt in your mouth Hanging Premium Sliced Angus Beef and Kurobuta Pork as well as the fresh seafood and house made fish balls and dumplings. The Drunken Pot also boasts a menu of innovative cocktails and private label house sake which are a great addition to your night out. A perfect spot to get together with friends or family and feast while enjoying beautiful views of HK skyline.

GUEST QUESTION
Hi Daniel, do you have recommendations for a vegetarian in HK, specially some dimsum places? I'm not looking for vegetarian restaurants, but instead great food places where I can perhaps find a couple of vegetarian items on the menu. I enjoy busy, loud places as opposed to quiet places. Thanks!
Hi Nishith,

Pici Pasta Bar is a lively neighbourhood joint with some great vegetarian options that I love in Wan Chai. Amalfitana Artisan Pizza Bar in Repulse Bay always has a great atmosphere and a great ocean view. Chachawan is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in HK and have lots of vegetarian options and is always buzzing. For Dim Sum YUM CHA in Central is a great space with lots of vegetarian options and I would definitely recommend. Hope that helps!

Yashoku, “A Midnight Snack” in Japanese, is Zuma’s inspiration for Hong Kong’s very first night brunch. The Saturday evening party commences at 8:30pm and includes free flow champagne, sake, house infused sochu, beers and array mouthwatering Japanese fare. We loved the lively atmosphere with a live DJ putting you straight into the weekend spirit. Instead of a buffet, small dishes are brought to your table so you can try a little of everything and order more of what you like. We loved the fresh salmon hand rolls, tomato salad, crispy fried squid, chicken karaage, fried softshell crab, pork and foie gras gyoza and the selection of the perfectly grilled robata skewers. If you are looking for a fun spot to kick off your Saturday night this is it. Bring a group of friends for an informal dinner and plenty of drinks all hosted in Zuma’s stylish bar.

Breton cuisine has arrived at The Ocean courtesy of new Executive Chef Olivier Bellin. Born and raised in Brittany, Chef Bellin is a member of “Les Grandes Tables Du Monde” and began his career working with Joel Robuchon in the Mid-Nineties in Paris before returning home and transforming the family inn, L’Auberge des Glazicksbeing, which went on to be awarded Two Michelin Stars. Chef Bellin joined The Ocean in May 2017 and takes you through a journey of Brittany’s famed ingredients including buckwheat and fresh seafood. We loved the fusions of textures and flavours in each dish and the concentration on tastes from the sea. Favourite dishes of the evening included the sweet Raw Hokkaido Scallops with Crispy Kabu and Pollen Vinaigrette, the fragrant Pan Seared Coral Brittany Langoustine with Beetroot and Buckwheat Tartare, the decadent Blue Lobster lightly cooked with a Brioiche and Pork Head Veil, Curry Sauce and Apple and Grapefruit Condiment, and the extremely flavourful Planeour-Menez Pigeon cooked on the carcass with Confit Legs, Sauteed Green Cabbage and Buckwheat Seeds. We highly recommend ordering the Degustation menu and allowing the chef’s skills and fresh ingredients to take you through the gastronomic journey. Opt for wine pairing by the sommelier for the full experience and book a window front booth to enjoy stunning views of Repulse Bay. A perfect date night spot and ideal for celebratory occasions.

TokyoLima has introduced their fun and lively weekend brunch, serving a series of mouthwatering signature dishes and free flow drinks. Peruvian Chef Arturo Melendez has done his own fun twist on the traditional Omakase menu and introduced his own Omacasa brunch. The four course Nikkei spread stays true to TokyoLima’s vibrant flavours and offers a great tasting of their siganture dishes. We loved starting with the refreshing Nikkei Style Soba Salad, addictive “Ki-Mo-Chi” Fried Chicken, indulgent Lomo Saltad “El Tacos”, and classic Seabass Ceviche. They have a great selection of main courses to choose from and we recommend the decadent Grilled Black Cod with a Citrus Miso Glaze and the juicy, perfectly cooked “Picanha” Grilled Rump Steak with Edamame Puree and Pickled Cucumber which was a definite favourite. Make sure to treat yourselves to the free flow option which includes Prosecco, sake, wines and beer for a fun and memorable experience. Definitely one of our new favourite brunch spots in town.

Sushi Ono serves up a mouthwatering Omakase menu at the heart of Central. Tucked away on the 9th Floor of 11 Stanley Street we loved the intimate space and sitting at the engaging and lively sushi bar where each course is lovingly prepared by the chef utilizing the freshest produce flown in from Tokyo. The Omakase menu consisted of approximately 15 courses with highlights such as Simmered Abalone with Abalone Sauce, Paper Thin Cut Aberjack with Fresh Seaweed Roll, Fresh Whole Sea Urchin with Soy Sauce Jelly, and perfectly Grilled Lobster. The sushi and sashimi selection is a true treat with the melt in your mouth Seated Fatty Tuna, Striped Jack Sahimi, Geoduck Clam, Sea Whelk & Fresh Octopus being some of our favourites. Make sure to ask for sake recommendations to pair perfectly with the menu. We highly recommend Sushi Ono for one of the best Omakase experiences in town.

Akikan Robatayaki, located on the 27th & 28th floors of the Cubus building in Causeway Bay, is a luxurious and stylish dining venue serving high end Japanese fare. You are instantly drawn to the large surrounding floor to ceiling windows illuminating the chic restaurant with HK’s city skyline. We loved the ambient dark wood paneling and welcoming leather booths, perfect for a romantic date night. The menu is comprised of an extensive list of Robata specialities including juicy Wagyu Beef and Sweet Snapper, each cooked to order behind the engaging 16 person bar over a hot charcoal grill. Aside from the mouthwatering robatayaki we were delighted to discover their amazingly fresh sushi and sashimi. Fresh fish is flown in daily and Executive Chef Kenji Sugihara, formerly of Sushi Hiro, emphasizes the importance of time and effort when preparing his vibrant and decadent sushi and sashimi dishes. Make sure to check out their extensive sake and wine list to pair with your meal and settle in for a indulgent and relaxing evening where you can truly taste the irresistible flavours of Japan.
