Let's take a break from food to introduce you tho this amazing happy place - Clawset Cafe! It's a pet cafe where you can bring your dogs to play. There is a resident grumpy cat and a few dogs that do great PR work. Super cute and happy. Oh and it helps that they make great mocktails too!

Moving on with my food adventures in Malaysia here's a mix of takeaways including a special delivery from my dad's hometown 2 hours away courtesy of my aunt. Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun! These rice rolls have extra ingredients rolled in that make them super delicious. Also featured here are Village Park Uptown's famous Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken and Beef Rendang. Best of the best!

Another childhood favourite of mine is this Pork Noodles but it has to be a good one are it's not enjoyable. The clear pork broth is so delicious. I like mine with vermicelli noodles. The toppings include pork slices, pork mince balls, fried lard, pork liver and vege.
  • 😍 3
Mud Crab is one of my favourites! There are so many ways its cooked and my favourite is Chilli Crab (pictured), Kam Heong ( Golden Fragrant) and Butter Cheese. When I go to Malaysia I revisit my childhood favourite Wong Poh for my fix.

The simplest of foods are sometimes the best. My staple breakfast of Maggi Goreng which is fried instant noodles mamak style.
  • 😍 2
Nasi Kerabu - A Kelantanese dish with many elements to it. Fragrant rice coloured naturally with blue flower, a mix of chopped raw veges and herbs, delicious fried chicken, crackers and spicy sauce. I love the herby tastes you get with this dish and the different textures.

Moving on to noodles this is one of my favourite street food dishes - Mee Rebus. Yellow noodles in a thick spiced sweet potato gravy with all the toppings. 😍 This one's from Gerai in Centrepoint Bandar Utama.

Naughty Nuri's is a successful restaurant chain from Bali serving really good Balinese food. Lucky for me there's one near my house. Their Nasi Goreng is to die for with such delicious flavour. The aroma alone is super appetizing!

Lovely food. Cute name ;)
Next Stop, home sweet home - Malaysia! I come from Petaling Jaya in Selangor. I'll be sharing some top picks and favourite eats in the area. Our first breakfast was at Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum. Best Dim Sum/Yum Cha hands down. We especially like their Xiao Long Bao (Soup pork dumplings) though everything else is great too. The Golden Custard Bun is delicious and fluffy while the Prawn Crystal Dumplings (Har Gow) are fresh and yummy.

I want to conclude my adventures in Japan with this beautiful snapshot in Gion, Kyoto.

Shirakawa-minami Dori is known as the prettiest street in Kyoto. A cobblestone road alongside the Shirakawa Canal, lined with trees hanging over. To me it's most beautiful at night and this was captured at 7.30pm in spring. Sayonara beautiful Japan.

Dining on some Kyoto cuisine. I love all the little morsels and variety of dishes. Everything tastes so fresh and clean as well, a healthy lifestyle.

After walking around the bamboo forest some ice cream is in order. We spotted this stall that does a "tasting cup" (or cone) of 4 flavours - Matcha, Sencha, Oat Tea and Roasted Rice Tea. Each flavour had a subtle difference but distinct enough to tell. The Oat tea one was my favourite!

There she is. The gorgeous Kinkakuji in all it's golden glory under blue sunny skies. Got here early to try and get a spot. It rained hard the night before so the water wasn't as clear hence a lesser reflection. Still a pretty sight nonetheless

GUEST QUESTION
Hi, what do you prefer to do when in a layover for a long time in an airport and stuck with no card to give access to lounges ?
I always plan my trips with little layover time but that also means I don't get to see the airport or explore much. If I have more than 6 hours I will try to take a bus/train/monorail out to the city. Or anything nearby (make sure you don't need special visa for that country). If it's under 6 hours and I've exhausted all the shops in the airport I grab a drink, hunt free WiFi and a charging station and use that time to catch up with my social media, family, emails and read. Hahaha boring I know.

GUEST QUESTION
Hi, you must have experienced a lot of airports while traveling. which one is your favorite and why ?
Hello Shruti. I have indeed come across my fair share of airports, some better than others. I'd say Incheon Airport, South Korea is efficient, clean, good layout, easy to navigate, good staff and amenities/services available. Hamad Airport in Doha is my second pick, again it's clean, comfortable, good facilities and well designed.

More from Kyoto Station. There is a free Sky Walk where you could walk the roof of the station and take a closer look at the architecture. It's a pretty cool experience.

Kyoto Station is a rather impressive building with a multilevel shopping complex, nice architecture, rooftop "garden" offering a view of the city and plenty of good food options. I took some time to check it out. More pics to come.

How many days are you in Japan for and covering which cities?
00:10
We just did Osaka and Kyoto over 8 days including a day trip to Nara. It's a decent span of time to see and experience the main things in each city.

Finally we went inside and got to the other side of Kyomizu-dera - the famous historical stage built with no nails. It was a shame that restoration works were in progress and the bamboo scaffolding covered up the building but it was still a nice sight from up here anyway.

Today let me show you some of my Nishiki Market faves. Kyoto is inland and so traditionally fresh fish was harder to obtain. You will find plenty of preserved, cured and pickled foods here. First stop check out this pickled vege store!

GUEST QUESTION
What is your opinion of Venice as a destination? Keeping aside guandola rides, is there much in the city?
00:29
Hi Sarvesh! I have indeed and I didn't take a gondola ride because I felt exactly the same way. Overrated and expensive. I did however like Venice, apart from getting lost in little lanes, Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco, it might pay to venture out to the surrounding islands such as Murano. There you can see more art and sights such as their famous glass blowing.

As for the smells, I think it depends when you go. I went in October and there was no smell. Even with the fresh seafood market stalls all over the place. Unfortunately when it's warm the smells rise and waft through so perhaps avoid going in summer.

Venice to me is just a 2 day stop but the views from Piazza San Marco left the biggest imprint in my brain.

Sarvesh Sah 3 months ago
Thanks Tzy Ling Tan ..I have to agree to:
1. I felt bad about the smell but I went in March, so may be it starts from then?
2. The view from Piazza San Marco is definitely good.
I spent only half a day in the city and liked getting lost in the by lanes behind the Piazza and exploring small restaurants/cafes for coffee and lunch..
Some people have asked me how to find Daruma Kushikatsu in Osaka (the one we tried). Well there are a few branches across Osaka so all you need to do is look for this man!

Kushikatsu literally means deep fried skewers so it's meat or vegetables coated in egg, flour and panko breadcrumbs then fried to a crispy fragrant golden brown. Make sure you dip in the dipping sauce which is a bit like Worcestershire but not as tangy. If you're dining in, the dipping sauce is communal, please only dip ONCE!

GUEST QUESTION
Which places to include while planning a trip to Japan - Tokyo, Kyoto, what else?
00:38
I think Osaka is a must, just for the street food! Hokkaido is also great in summer for rolling rainbow hills of flowers and winter for the snow villages. Hokkaido is also known locally to be the no. 1 for food produce so get in as many seafood buffets as you can. 😊
